SF Chronicle’s Inside Scoop: Ex-employees to resurrect Neldam’s Bakery under a new name, new ownership

Rising from the dead: About two weeks ago, Neldam’s Bakery (3401 Telegraph Ave.) suddenly closed after over 80 years of business in Oakland, in a move that surprised most employees – not to mention several brides-to-be whose wedding cake orders weren’t filled.

But a rebirth is in the works, thanks to a new ownership group comprised of ex-employees who have banded together with the landlord to form a co-op. Together, they hope to breathe life into the ill-fated bake shop and in the next few weeks reopen it as A Taste of Denmark.
